About Finlight Index
We are an independent research platform committed to making financial literacy data accessible, comparable, and actionable for everyone.
Illuminating the State of Global Financial Capability
Finlight Index was founded on a simple but urgent conviction: that financial literacy is one of the most powerful determinants of individual wellbeing and national economic resilience — yet it remains chronically under-measured and poorly understood at a global scale.
We exist to close that gap. By systematically collecting, normalizing, and publishing financial literacy data across countries, we give researchers, educators, policymakers, and curious citizens the tools they need to understand where the world stands — and what it takes to improve.
All information on this platform is provided strictly for educational and informational purposes. We do not offer financial advice or paid services.
Our Core Values
Transparency
Every methodology decision, data source, and calculation is documented and publicly accessible. We have nothing to hide and everything to explain.
Independence
We are not affiliated with any government, financial institution, or political organization. Our rankings are determined solely by data.
Global Perspective
Financial literacy challenges are universal. Our methodology is designed to be culturally and economically neutral, comparing nations fairly on normalized metrics.
Public Access
All of our research, rankings, and educational materials are freely available. We believe knowledge about financial systems belongs to everyone.
Rigor
We apply academic-grade statistical methods. Our composite index is reviewed annually by an external advisory board of financial education researchers.
Actionability
Data without context is noise. We pair every ranking with explanatory analysis and policy-relevant insights to help stakeholders act on what they find.
How We Measure Financial Literacy
The Finlight Index composite score is derived from 12 weighted indicators across four dimensions:
Understanding of interest rates, inflation, diversification, and risk.
Budgeting, saving, debt management, and long-term planning habits.
Orientation toward saving versus spending, and future vs. present focus.
Availability of banking, insurance, and investment products to the population.
